Most of our work is done in small teachers workshops. In each workshop there are approximately ten Palestinian and ten Israeli teachers. The participants teach the same subject matter – English, History, Math, etc. Each workshop is facilitated by two facilitators – a Palestinian and an Israeli.

The program runs on a monthly basis throughout the school year and has the following regular and constant components for each facilitator:

a.      One session per month where concrete materials in the subject matters are brought before the teachers on a uni-national (Israelis and Palestinians apart) level and the teachers must respond in writing with their feedback and ideas.

b.       One regular session between the facilitator and the supervisor of his/her nationality to plan and address issues that came up.

c.      One meeting or at least phone conversation between each pair of co-facilitators to update on what is happening and ideas for the future. This meeting should be summarized and exchanged between the two co-facilitators.

d.      One uni-national meeting between all facilitators and national staff in order to review general issues, updates and future plans.

The program also includes the flexible measures which are not clear when they would take place and are scheduled into the agenda tentatively on a regular basis. These include:

1)     Bi-national meetings between facilitators

2)     Bi-national meetings between teachers in the group

3)     Bi-national meetings between representative teachers of different group.

Despite its tentative nature the bi-national work is a substantial component of the work. The two Co-Directors are in daily contact coordinating and planning together each aspect of the work.  It is through this joint framework that is regularly maintained, that the teachers and facilitators can exchange experiences and ideas and allow for a more enriched sense of their educational work. Coping with the uncertainty and the complexity which was entailed in both the technical aspects and contents of these meetings, provided essential tools for the teachers and their students who must deal with these as an integral part of their daily reality.
